Caterpillars

Kayla watched this caterpillar for quite a while. Even during dinner she wanted to keep getting up to check on it. Marc would touch it with a stick and it would curl up for a minute. As soon as it started moving again Kayla wanted her daddy to touch it again. She was quite fascinated.

Sign Language

Macy is finally signing. We've been working with her for several months. She definitely understands some words, but now she can communicate with us. So far it is just "more" that she knows, but it's a huge step in understanding that she can tell us what she wants. I only have pictures to post right now. The sign for more if bringing the tips of all 5 fingers together, but she just claps her hands together. I remember with Kayla, once she picked up a few words she just kept going. She knew that she could tell us what she wanted to do. We only ended up using about 20 signs with Kayla before she started to talk more. She is great about helping us teach Macy the signs. So far we are working on more, eat, and bath. Oh, and she is finally drinking out of a sippy cup. I thought that would never happen. She'd even start crying if she saw me getting it for her. Now if I can just get her to hold it herself...

9 Months Old

Here are some of Macy's 9 month pictures. It is so hard to believe she is 9 months already. And, she is no longer the youngest Dutton grandchild. Congratulations Dave and Tanya on the birth of Baby Emma!

More Vacation

Ok, here is my last post for tonight. We specifically chose a hotel that had an indoor pool. Kayla was so excited to go swimming again, and this was the first time that Macy was able to enjoy it. She loved riding in her new car.

Monday was gorgeous outside. Marc unfortunately had to work at a job fair, so it was just me and the girls. We decided to go to the zoo. It was absolutely wonderful. It was so nice outside, but there were hardly any people at the zoo. This is a picture of her watching and elephant. They had brought the elephant indoors for a vet to look at it. This was the view I had of her most of the day as she just stood there and stared at the animals.

Vacation

Marc had a business trip to Knoxville, so we made it a 4 day trip and went with him. We also went to Gatlinburg while we were there. We had a great time, but I'm glad to be home in my own bed and getting the girls back in a routine. This picture is of Kayla showing us the piece of candy she wanted. It had sprinkles on it, so of course that's what she wanted. It's was an Oreo dipped in white chocolate.

We went to a petting zoo in Sevierville, TN. We have something similar near our house, but this place had more animals. Here they are with the goats. I kept Macy on the outside of the fence and threw some food in to get them away from the gate.
We bought a cup of food to feed the animals. Kayla is feeding the deer, but she was only throwing out one piece at a time. Poor deer, all of the anticipation over eating again, and Kayla throws out one kernel of corn!
She is feeding a zonkey (zebra/donkey mix). She did great feeding several animals a piece of apple.

Valentine's Day

I know it has been a while since I have posted (we've been out of town), so I'm going to play catch-up tonight.

For Valentine's Day my mom gave Kayla a saxophone. She absolutely LOVES it. Unfortunately there is no volume button or an on/off switch. When will toy manufactures realize that parents need that?? Oh well, Kayla really enjoys it, so that's what matters most. She runs around the house playing her "mu-gwiks" (music). Oh, and for you musical people out there, tonight she said "very loud, fortissimo". Surprised both of us. She picked it up from watching Little Einsteins about 20 times in the car on our trip.

Sleeping Beauty

Macy has always slept on her stomach. From the time she could lift her head we put her to sleep on her tummy. She just slept so much better. She NEVER sleeps on her back, however one day I found her sleeping like this - on her pile of blankets. Of course I had to grab the camera because the only sleeping pictures I have of her is of the back of her head. Aren't sleeping babies so precious?!?

Flower Girl

Kayla and Macy are going to be flower girls in my sister's wedding. We tried the dress on tonight. Kayla can't grow much in the next 2 months! On the other hand we need Macy to grow some so she can fit into her dress!

Posing Pretty

It is so hard to get Kayla to pose for pictures. She is so difficult to get to smile. I know she gets that from her mother, though! I was the same way growing up.
We took Macy's 8 month pictures here at home. Yes, we take pictues every month. We have frames of the girls where the matting has 12 holes for each month of their first year. Guess I should have ironed the sheet before we started. I didn't even notice it until we were looking at the pictures. Macy is so easy to get to smile. She is always laughing.

Tagged

I was "tagged" by 2 people, but I'm not "blog-savy" enough to figure out how to link back to them as the rules state. Also, the only people I know who blog have already been tagged. So anyway, I'll give my "6 Quirky Facts about Me" for anyone who actually reads this. I guess they are more of facts because I'm not quirky at all! haha

1. Marc and I have been married for 7 years this June and we have 2 little girls (in case you couldn't tell by all of the pictures). Kayla will be 3 in April, and Macy will be 1 in May.

2. I teach Chemistry to children ages 5-8. I know, what kind of Chemistry do I teach? I actually teach for 3 hours a week at my church. This semester we're learning about water and all the neat stuff you can do with it.

3. If I could move anywhere in the world it would be Alaska. We've been a couple of times and it is the most magnificent place. God's creation is awesome.

4. I'm dreading the big 3-0 next year. I'm getting old!!

5. I'm obsessed with organization. I should buy stock in Rubbermaid. Too bad I'm not as obsessed about cleaning bathrooms or doing laundry.

6. I'm very easily distracted and I've probably spent 20 minutes coming up with this list.
