Maine Day 6 - Kennebunkport and Ocean Park

 Sunday's adventures took us back on the water for whale watching This was a long adventure that took us pretty far out into the ocean.

It was an amazingly beautiful day, and we claimed these seats up front. When it came time to wait on the whales to resurface, it got a little crowded with the kids wanting to stand up here for a better view. 

After the boat ride we walked around Kennebunkport.  It's a cute little town.

The Bush compound.  The US flag was up, so the Bushes were in town.

Marc's family has a beach house in Ocean Park, and the last time we were in Maine (20 years ago) we stayed there with Uncle Ben and Aunt Caroline.  They have since passed away, but Marc knocked on the door and introduced himself to Grampie's cousin Arlene.

 So funny!

Maine Day 5 - Portland

 We started off our visit to Portland with a Lobster Catching tour. We didn't realize how involved we would be in pulling, rebaiting, and releasing the lobster traps, but it was a great experience.

You know they mean business when you get the orange rubber aprons.

I'm proud of them for taking on the whole experience and handling the fish. 

Seal Island

We had a delicious lunch at Flatbread Company. Macy had been eyeing the blueberry cobbler, and it was super yummy. 

Next stop: The iconic Portland Head Lighthouse.

This one set off on her own little adventure down the rocks towards the water.  Her parents got to learn how to let go a little bit more. 

It was a fun-filled day full of Maine classics: lobsters, blueberries, and lighthouses.

Maine Day 4 - Acadia to Portland

 Heading back to Portland we stopped by Fort Knox. This was one of my favorite forts we've visited.  We were also able to go underground and check out that part of the fort.

We made another stop at the Northern Solstice Alpaca Farm. This baby was just a few days old. 

"Kissing" alpacas.  It's a natural smelling reaction that llamas will do, but some alpacas have picked up the skill. 

We made one final stop at the LL Bean Flagship store. It was so massive. 

After a long day of travel, we were excited to be in Portland for a few days.

Maine Day 3 - Acadia National Park

 Because we couldn't get sunrise tickets to Cadillac Mountain, we opted to check it out from Otter Cliff.  It was a 4AM wake-up call to see the sunrise, and it did not disappoint.

The main road inside Acadia is a one-way loop, so after sunrise, we stopped at Jordan Pond.  It was so still and pristine.

Sand Beach

We stopped by Thunder Hole, but we were a little too early to hear the loud thunder sounds.  The water coming into this cave before high tide rumbles, and although we didn't get to hear it at its peak, we did manage to hear some rumbling before heading out.

We headed to breakfast at Jordan's restaurant, and it was so good.  Marc and Macy really enjoyed that blueberries are in season in Maine. They are much smaller than the blueberries that we get down south, but they were yummy.

We enjoyed a game of putt-putt.

After a pizza dinner we headed to Timber Tina's Great Maine Lumberjack Show. We remembered watching Tina on Survivor, so that was a fun connection.  The show was good, and the kids all enjoyed the evening.

One more night outside of Acadia, and tomorrow we headed back to Portland.
