Our precious little girl arrived on January 5, 2010 at 6:01PM. She was 8 pounds 4.5 ounces and 19.5 inches long. She has the cutest cheeks and baby rolls.

I woke up with contractions around 2:30 in the morning. They were pretty consistent and regular for a few hours and then basically went away. We decided to head to the church to do some walking and see if that would help bring the contractions back on. Before we could leave my water broke (sort of) and the contractions started picking back up, so we decided to head down the doctor's office. I called and the nurse said she would call me back and let me know when the doctor wanted to see me. Hello! My water broke and I'm having painful contractions, I'm coming now. A few minutes later Dr. Dyar called and told me to just go straight to labor and delivery. About 2 minutes later my water really broke - good thing I was prepared! About 5 minutes after that I get a call back from the nurse (this is about 11:45) saying that the doctor would try to squeeze me in at 1:00. Ummm, I don't think so! I told her that he had already called and told me to go straight to the hospital. I'm not sure what part of "my water broke and I'm having strong, regular contractions" she didn't get, but thankfully the doctor contacted me personally.
By this point I was ready for my epidural. Unfortunately I had 482 questions to answer about my life and insurance. Then the nurses had to stab me 3 times to get an IV started (that's a whole 'nother story) and then finally some relief. Things have changed since I delivered Macy. The epidural now has a little booster contraption. If I'm having pain I click a button and an extra dose of the drugs is added in. I really wanted as little medication as I could handle because I hated my legs being complete dead weight and taking hours to get feeling back in them. This worked out perfectly for me because I could still move my legs and feel when I was having a contraction, but the major pain was gone.
I'll spare the rest of the delivery details except to say that Brooke was facing up instead of down. This makes delivery much more difficult. God orchestrated the timing of everything so that the perfect doctor was on call. He was very encouraging and didn't rush into any interventions to get her out. After she was born he said that more often than not, when babies are presenting the way Brooke was, the moms end up with a c-section. Unfortunately this did leave her with an awful looking head and excruciating pain for a few hours. The picture below doesn't even show it at it's worst.
She had fluid in her lungs when she was born and they had to call the respiratory therapist in. I hated not being able to hold her, but after several different interventions, probably taking 45 minutes, she was given to me. I was told that she might still have to go to transition nursery to be monitored, but once she had some lovin' from her mama she did wonderful and hasn't left our side.

The girls are so excited. Kayla can barely keep her hands off of Brooke and she is always giving her kisses. Macy is excited and keeps saying "Brooke came out of Mommy's tummy." She too loves to touch Brooke and give her kisses, but at 2 1/2 she has plenty of other things she is interested in.

We are so excited that she is finally here. She has been a great baby so far, and we are hoping for some rest tonight. We will be discharged in the morning and I am looking forward to being in my own home. We should be able to leave in the morning and get home before the snow comes. We are praying for lots of snow that the girls can play in. They are so excited to possibly make snow angels, snowmen, and snowballs. I, on the other hand, plan to be sitting by the window watching them have fun with their daddy, enjoying a warm fire, while holding the newest member of our family and I can't wait!
