Something to do on a Cold Day

It's no secret that Kayla and Macy love to dress up.  Usually it's like a princess, a doctor, or a fairy.  Today, however, when it is one of the coldest days we have had, the girls come downstairs in their swimsuits, spring dress shoes, and construction goggles. Meanwhile, I am in a fleece jacket under a blanket.  I guess they weren't too cold.

And yes, I did help Macy turn her swimsuit the right direction after I took the pictures.

Thanksgiving Play

Kayla's school had a Thanksgiving Feast last week and the kindergarten class performed a cute little play.  Kayla was one of the pilgrim women and throughout the play they would say "mercy me." It was so cute.  In her class there are 14 girls and 4 boys so the play had a lot of pilgrim women and Indian women. After the kids were done they switched places with a parent and the parents got to perform the play.  I thought it would be cute to have Marc take Kayla's place, but he refused.  After the play we enjoyed a lunch together.  Kayla was so excited that we were at her school to eat with her, Macy was so excited to be at Kayla's school, and Brooke was ready to be home. I am so thankful for such a wonderful school.  Kayla absolutely loves it and so do we.

Field Trip to Farmhouse in the City

Kayla's third field trip of the year was to a place called Farmhouse in the City.  It is a quaint little place that you would never find unless you were looking for it.  A couple of cats roam throughout, and one of them jumped in the paint a couple of times. There were a few rabbits, guinea pigs, and a dog as well.  The weather was beautiful so we all headed out onto the back patio to enjoy the animals and some sunshine.

Kayla enjoyed holding the rabbit.  Macy tried, but very quickly decided that she really didn't want to hold it after all.

They both got their faces painted.

They each picked out a piece of pottery to paint.  Of course Kayla would choose a princess.  She was going to paint it just like Belle until she found out that they didn't have any skin colored paint.  Then Belle got a little crazy looking.

Macy chose a cupcake and started off painting most of it yellow.  By the time she was finished she had a little bit of every color on it. They also painted little pumpkins but I didn't get a picture of those. 

The girls enjoyed dressing up of course.  There were tons of skirts, wings, jewelry, crowns, and anything else a little girl could want.

They had a wonderful time.  Only in kindergarten can you take field trips like this.

Change of Blog

If you are here then you know that we have moved our blog. We tried to password protect our blog, but blogger was thwarting all of Marc's efforts.  We opted against just taking it private because that would require everyone to get a google account, and we didn't want to put that hassle on everyone.  Instead we have moved our blog to this address in hopes of keeping lurkers away.  I have been blogging for 3 years and somehow never realized that there was an option to allow search engines to find me and to allow my blog to stay in bloggers public database.  By not setting those privacy settings several random people were following and commenting on my blog.  While I am not opposed to other moms that I don't know reading my blog, I didn't like a couple of followers and commenters who had no information about who they were.  The last straw came when I had a follower that was a recovering drug addict (and good for him to be drug and alcohol free for 2 years) and he had placed my blog on his blog roll so that anyone who came to his blog about recovery could link up to mine. Neither Marc or I were comfortable with that, so we have transferred my blog over here, set the privacy settings so I can't be searched out, and I can't be linked back off of the old blog to this one. Phew! We are hoping this solves the problems. I have spent most of my day trying to get everything back in order over here.  I have lots of updates that I hope to put up later tonight. And my advice to all bloggers is to check your settings if you want some sort of privacy.

Privacy

For the last few weeks we have debated taking my blog private, and we have decided that it is in the best interest of our family to do so. Instead of going private through the blogger settings we are going to password protect our blog. Family and friends who still want to follow our adventures please let me know and I will send you the password to view the blog. I'm not exactly sure how it will work, but that's why I married a smart computer guy. I will be setting the protection up later this week.

Miss Independent

This morning I told Macy that I was going to put Brooke down for a nap and then I would get her a snack. I was upstairs for about 4 minutes and Macy met me on the stairs as I was coming down. She looked upset and said "I can't do it" in the most pitiful voice. I asked her what she couldn't do and she told me that she couldn't make a peanut butter sandwich. Once in the kitchen I saw that she had gotten out the bread, a knife, 2 jars of peanut butter, and a cookie cutter. None of this surprised me except for the peanut butter. She opened the pantry, pulled a chair over, climbed up, reached to the back, and pulled out both jars. After all that work how could I deny her a sandwich for snack? I made her sandwich, cut it into a flower, and left the crust on her plate. Sure enough, the girl gobbled up the entire sandwich. I guess she was hungry!

Fall Festival

We opt out of trick-or-treating and head to a fall festival instead. The girls have fun playing games and getting candy. I don't even think they know what trick-or-treating is. Crazy, huh? Fall festivals just work better for us. It's funny that if you ask Kayla what she is going to be for Halloween or if she is going trick-or-treating, she just stares at you. We have always just told her that we don't celebrate Halloween, but we go to Fall Festivals instead. They like it, I like it, it's a win for all.

Once again we headed to the church I grew up in for their fall festival. It's the same simple games each year, but the kids love it. The lines are short and the candy is yummy!

We didn't get a picture of them doing the cake walk, but this year Macy actually understood what to do and even after Kayla won her cupcake Macy kept going around until she won.

They came home with lots of candy, and I would be able to pass on most of it except my mom gave them a big bag of the good candy (Milky Way and Snickers). Torture I tell you!

Fairies

When it came time to decide on costumes Kayla wanted a Sleeping Beauty costume. I thought it would be cute if all 3 girls were a princess, but it's near impossible to find a cute princess costume for an infant. I found lots of Tinkerbell costumes, though, so I presented the idea of all the girls being fairies to Kayla. She loved it, and so I had a mission. I wanted them to match but be different colors. I figured this was the only chance I would get, but it was hard to find something I liked. Wait, I take that back. I found a lot of gorgeous costumes, but at $80 each I wasn't about to buy them. The girls were so excited when these arrived in the mail.
