Day 6/7 - Seward cabin

 

We pulled up to our cabin and saw this cute little grouping of mushrooms.  It looked exactly like something you would see in a story book.

We immediately went to check out our view of Kenai Lake. Stunning.

We knew we didn't have much time before the sunset, so we ate a quick dinner and got to exploring.

Before we left Anchorage we made sure to buy a small pack of firewood and things to make smores.

We taught the girls how to skip rocks. They were pretty excited whenever they could get them to skip, and they spent a lot of time practicing.

I love this guy, and he completely spoiled me with this birthday present.

This little tee-pee had been started before we arrived, and we helped add a little to it.

Our cabin was tiny, but clearly larger than the hotel rooms we had been staying in. We enjoyed our stay at Renfro's so much!

 

The next morning was cold and somewhat foggy, but that didn't stop Marc and the girls from taking the paddle boat out on the lake.

While they enjoyed some time on the water, I sat on the porch and watched this little guy enjoy a morning snack.

We all so loved our time here at this lakeside cabin. Everyone agreed that this was one of the highlights of our week in Alaska.  It was such a sweet way to wrap up our week.  We still had a busy day ahead of us, but our time here in The Last Frontier was quickly coming to an end.

Day 6 - Seward, Alaska

One of the most beautiful drives in Alaska is the drive from Anchorage to Seward.  Seward is a small coastal town. You can often see sheep and goats in the craggy rocks on the side of the road.  Kayla was the only one to spot one on this trip. 

Our adventure today was to take a wildlife boat cruise through the Kenai Fjords.  We were a little past prime wildlife viewing season, but we knew the scenery would be beautiful as well.

We were one of the first people on the boat, so we quickly snagged a couple of tables in the heated section of the boat.

We saw many glaciers on our journey.

It was cold and windy outside, so we spent most of our time enjoying the view from the inside. 

Of course a little hot chocolate will always help to warm you up. If you don't care for hot chocolate you go for a coke. :)

Our first wildlife spotting were some stellar sea lions.  They are endangered, and today they were enjoying some time in the sunshine on the rock. 

We were also able to see a fin whale.  They are the second largest mammal; only the blue whale is larger.  They can hold their breath for up to 45 minutes, so it is unusual to see them. We spent a while watching this one. 

We found some seals as well. 

Just as we were pulling back into the dock, we spotted a bald eagle. Such a fun afternoon! There aren't many restaurants in Seward, especially ones that our non-seafood eating girls would eat out.  We grabbed some sandwiches at Subway and made our way to our stop for the night. We rented a cabin on a lake, and we were excited to check it out!
