This year we gave the girls a trip to New York City for Christmas. They were so surprised and excited. We woke up EARLY Thursday morning to head to the airport.
It was so early that we caught sunrise after we had checked in and gone through security.
After a ride to our hotel that took over an hour thanks to some lovely gridlock in the city, we walked to Grand Central Station for lunch and subway passes.
We then headed over to Times Square. A nice lady offered to take our family's picture, and then she pulled a switch. She was from a Japanese television station and wanted to interview us about our thoughts on the election to which Marc agreed. She asked to start with me. Seriously?? Me, with my political views, who doesn't like being on camera, and especially doesn't like talking politics. She asked who I voted for and why. She also asked about the division this election has caused in the country and if I agreed there was a division and what should be done to fix it.
Meanwhile Marc takes pictures while they laugh at me. Then when it is his turn he declines the interview! It was a sore subject for a few days...
The girls had the opportunity to write a wish on a piece of confetti that will be dropped down on New Year's Eve in Times Square.
When we surprised the girls with the trip we gave them a red envelope containing the surprise. We had lots of fun plans for them over the next few days and they all started with a red envelope. They loved it when we pulled one out. On this night we were headed to see some major Christmas lights in an area of town called Dyker Heights. Apparently there is a big competition each year among the homeowners.
It was so cold. So very cold. As in a windchill of three degrees cold. We would have spent more time wandering this area of town if it were warmer, but we still enjoyed looking at all of the lights.
You never know who, or what, you might run into while in NYC!
Poor Kayla's feet were hurting even with 3 pairs of socks inside her boots. She didn't want to complain, but she was basically in tears. Once we got to the subway we transferred the hot hand warmers to her feet.
It had been a long day of travel, walking, and excitement. We were all worn out.
It was back to the hotel for a good night's sleep before our next exciting adventure Friday morning.
